If patients suspect that a health professional has been negligent, they may consider filing a complaint with the medical disciplinary tribunal. Complaints can be filed against healthcare professionals who are BIG-registered, like doctors, dentists, psychologists at GGZ organisations, psychotherapists, physiotherapists, midwifes and nurses. The medical disciplinary tribunal is always made up of fellow professionals of the person who is the subject of the complaint. In other words: complaints about manual therapists are considered by a tribunal that includes manual therapists. The medical disciplinary tribunal does not decide on compensation, if any, but may caution or reprimand the health professional or impose a penalty. In addition, the tribunal can suspend the health professional from practice temporarily or permanently.
